THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SPORTS COMMISSION DEVELOPS TOURISM THROUGH SPORTS. THE COMMISSION PROMOTES PALM BEACH COUNTY AS A TOURIST DESTINATION AND SUPPORTS SPORTS EVENTS THAT INCREASE BED TAX REVENUES, ENHANCE ECONOMIC IMPACT AND MAXIMIZE THE UTILIZATION OF COUNTY FACILITIES.

THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SPORTS COMMISSION PRODUCED A RECORD SETTING YEAR FOR SPORTS TOURISM IN THE PALM BEACHES. DURING FY 19, OUR SPORTS COMMISSION HOSTED ITS LARGEST COLLECTION OF SPORTING EVENTS. THE COMMISSIONS PORTFOLIO INCLUDED 179 SPORTS EVENTS THAT ATTRACTED VISITORS FROM ACROSS THE STATE, NATION, AND GLOBE. THESE SPORTS EVENTS GENERATED 256,369 TRACKABLE ROOM NIGHTS FOR PALM BEACH COUNTYS HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY. THIS ROOM NIGHT TOTAL REPRESENTS A NEW BENCHMARK. THE SPORTS COMMISSION IS EXPERIENCING UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH RATES REGARDING ITS TOURISM IMPACT. SPORTS RELATED ROOM NIGHT GENERATION INCREASED 5% YEAR OVER YEAR. OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS, THE SPORTS COMMISSIONS ROOM NIGHT PRODUCTION INCREASED BY 39%. THE SPORTS COMMISSION PARTNERED WITH MARQUEE NATIONAL AND GLOBAL SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS IN HOSTING HIGH-PROFILE SPORTING EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. EXAMPLES INCLUDE PARTNERSHIPS WITH ESPN EVENTS TO HOST A COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL GAME, THE PGA TOUR TO HOST THE HONDA CLASSIC, CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL, THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NCAA) TO HOST ITS DIVISION II WOMENS GOLF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION (USTA) TO HOST ITS BOYS AND GIRLS NATIONAL CLAY COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING, WITH FOUR TEAMS BASED IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. THE SPORTS COMMISSION ALSO HOSTED THE NATIONAL HOCKEY FESTIVAL, WHICH IS THE WORLDS LARGEST FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT. THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SPORTS COMMISSION CONTINUED ITS SUPPORT FOR EQUESTRIAN SPORTS. FROM THE WINTER EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL, WHICH IS A 12-WEEK CIRCUIT THAT CONSISTS OF THE NATIONS PREMIER EQUESTRIAN ATHLETES TO THE GAUNLET OF POLO, EQUESTRIAN SPORTS CONTINUE TO SIGNIFICANTLY GROW THE TOURISM ECONOMY IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. THESE PARTNERSHIPS REPRESENT ONLY A SAMPLE OF SPORTS PROPERTIES THAT HAVE DEFINED THE PALM BEACHES AS A LEADING DESTINATION FOR SPORTS TOURISM. THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SPORTS COMMISSION HOSTED ITS ANNUAL KIDS FITNESS FESTIVAL, AN EVENT THAT PROMOTES SPORTS PARTICIPATION, FITNESS, NUTRITION, AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLES TO THE YOUTH OF PALM BEACH COUNTY. THIS IS THE ONLY ANNUAL EVENT IN FLORIDA THAT PARTNERS WITH AN ARRAY OF STATE, REGIONAL, AND NATIONAL SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS TO EDUCATE A DIVERSE GROUP OF CHILDREN ABOUT THE NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES, BENEFITS, AND GRATIFICATION THAT ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN ATHLETICS, FITNESS, AND LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. APPROXIMATELY 4,000 YOUTH (AGES 5 TO 12) WERE INTRODUCED TO MORE THAN 40 DIFFERENT SPORTS IN 2019. NEARLY 75,000 YOUTH HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO SPORTS OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS AT THIS EVENT.
