SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSING PARTNERSHIP (MHP) CONTINUED TO FOLLOW ITS MISSION OF PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR LOW AND MODERATE INCOME FAMILIES (AT OR BELOW 80% OF AREA MEDIAN INCOME).CONSISTENT WITH MHP'S AFFORDABLE HOUSING PURPOSE, ONE OF THE CENTRAL FOCUSES HAS BEEN TO STRENGTHEN HOMEOWNERSHIP AMONG THE AFOREMENTIONED INCOME GROUP. CONSEQUENTLY, MHP'S CERTIFIED HOUSING COUNSELING STAFF COORDINATED TEN (10) HOMEBUYER EDUCATION WORKSHOPS, RESULTING IN A TOTAL OF 147 FAMILIES AND/OR INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING PERTINENT TRAINING RELATIVE TO THE HOMEBUYING PROCESS. THESE SESSIONS WERE DONE IN COLLABORATION WITH PROFESSIONALS FROM LOCAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, INSURANCE COMPANIES, REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS, NON-PROFITS, ETC. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO PROVIDE FORECLOSURE MITIGATION COUNSELING FOR NUMEROUS EXISTING HOMEOWNERS.MHP FURTHER COLLABORATED WITH THE CITY OF JACKSON TO PERFORM REHABILITATION OF AT LEAST THREE (3) HOMEOWNER OCCUPIED HOUSES IN THE WEST JACKSON AREA. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO DID INTAKE SERVICES FOR SEVERAL OTHER AREA RESIDENTS WHO WERE SEEKING ASSISTANCE FOR HOUSING REPAIRS.REGRETTABLY, HOMELESSNESS REMAINS A CONCERN WITHIN OUR NATION, STATE AND CITY. IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PERSONS WITHIN THE CITY OF JACKSON AND CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI AREA, MHP IS CONTINUALLY ENGAGED WITH THE CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI CONTINUUM OF CARE (COC). AS AN EXTENSION OF THIS ASSOCIATION, MHP HAS FOR TWO (2) YEARS (WITHIN THE NOTED PERIOD) OPERATED A SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM (SHP) WHERE RENTAL HOUSING ASSISTANCE AND OTHER SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FOR EIGHT (8) FEMALE-HEAD HOUSEHOLDS AND THEIR CHILDREN.OUTSIDE OF THE SHP, MHP OFFERS AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR OTHER INCOME-ELIGIBLE FAMILIES AS WELL.
