The purposes for which the corporation is organized are to promote and augment an understanding and appreciation of the maritime history, with particular emphasis on the maritime history of the city of Mobile, state of Alabama, and the Gulf Coast, through the establishment and maintenance of museum facilities and ongoing related activities, including education, research, collection, documentation, exhibition, and publication, and to receive and maintain funds and apply the income and principal thereof for the aforesaid purposes; and to do any and all things necessary for, helpful to or consistent with these purposes.

Gulfquest/National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico is the premier maritime museum on the Gulf Coast, dedicated to inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to understand and appreciate the Gulf Coast's rich maritime heritage through exhibits, programs and activities.
