The MRHS spay/neuter clinic continued its core work of sterilizing all adopted animals from the Athens animal shelter as well as offering these services to the general public. MRHS continued to offer adoption specials throughout the year, which include spaying and neutering, to encourage and educate about the benefits of pet sterilization. Proactive measures were taken to sterilize the numerous feral cats in our rural area and return them as 'working cats' (farms, barns, etc.) Community response to this initiative was very positive. Dog training sessions were also held at the clinic for the benefit of both volunteers and the adopting public to help prevent returns to the shelter. We are actively searching for property and seeking funds to expand our facility to an adoption center as well as a spay and neuter clinic. Eventually we would like to house all our activities, including our expanding rescue operations, under one roof.
