About
Founded in 1986, the Society collects, preserves, presents and interprets the history of Jews in Memphis and the Mid-South. Jews have been an integral part of southern Jewish history since the earliest days of European settlement in America. According to the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, “Though Jews never comprised more than one percent of the South’s population, few phases of the Southern experience and few places in the South escaped their influence.” Through our programs, newsletter and projects, we offer connection, understanding and pride in the achievements of the generations of Jews that preceded our own. It is our mission to preserve and share this valuable history for the generations of the future.
