Local people, local decisions, local impact. The foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is an organization serving southeastern Kentucky with 8 affiliates in 12 counties. We help Kentuckians across the state give to the causes they care about, and we make grants to make life better for all people.

During the past year, the foundation: continued to operate and establish a well-grounded, well known and well regarded office and staff in the heart of the southeastern Kentucky coal fields while establishing and participating in regional initiatives to transition to a diverse economy as the coal industry continues to decline; met national standards for US community foundations as set forth by the community foundations national standards board at the national council on foundations; had over $3.2 million assets under management in over 90 funds with more than 2,300 donors, and a mailing list of over 3,000 people; provided fiscal and administrative sponsorships for over 10 organizations; and provided leadership and support to the Appalachia funders network, a collaborative of 80+ public and private funders working together to build community capacity and promote an equitable economic transition into new and emerging sectors as the coal industry continues to decline.
