About
BUILDING ON THE STRENGTH OF OUR FIRST YEARS, L3C ENTERED THE YEAR BY AGAIN OPENING UP THE EVENT, FREE OF CHARGE, TO ANY AND ALL CANCER SURVIVOR TEAMS; PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED OR INITIATED FOR THIS EVENT. OVER 24 TEAMS REGISTERED FOR THE EVENT LAST YEAR, AND WE AGAIN WILL AWARD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NO LESS THAN 6 DIVISIONS, INCLUDING CHARITY, SCHOLASTIC, SURVIVORS AND WOMEN'S WHOSE ENTRY FEES WERE EXEMPTED. (MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY FUNDRAISED VIA THEIR PARTICIPATION). INITIAL RESPONSE WAS AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS VERY WELL RECEIVED, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE WORD SPREADING AS CHATTER AT EVENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY UNFOLDS. USDBF AND SRDBA BOTH INDICATED THIS, (EXEMPTED FEES) WAS UNPRECEDENTED AMONGST OTHER SIMILAR EVENTS IN THE US AND SAID THEY WILL ALSO PROMOTE THE INVITATION TO ITS MEMBERS IN THE MEANTIME, AS AN EVENT WITH A MORE PROGRESSIVE APPROACH TO DRAFTING PARTICIPATION, L3C'S DRAGONBOAT FESTIVAL HAS BEEN WELL RECEIVED BY BOTH THE USDBF AND SRDBA BOARDS AND SUB COMMITTEES. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS OUR RACES HAVE BEEN SANCTIONED BY BOTH GOVERNING BODIES MEANING ANY NATIONAL MEMBER CAN PARTICIPATE IN OUR EVENT AND EARN POINTS TOWARD THEIR (AMATEUR) ELIGIBILITY TO QUALIFY FOR BOTH THE REGIONAL AND THE NATIONAL CLUB CREW CHAMPIONSHIPS. THOUGH L3C HAS YET TO REALIZE SOLVENCY FOR THIS EVENT WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO OUR BEDROCK MISSION TO ACT AS A CATALYST FOR LOCAL CHARITIES IN THEIR MISSIONS TO BETTER THE LIVES OF A BROAD POPULATION HERE IN METRO/JEFFERSON COUNTY. THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REALIZES THIS CRITICAL TIME IN THE PROJECT'S EVOLUTION, AND IS EXPLORING SEVERAL ROUTES FORWARD INCLUDING NAMING A SPECIFIC IDENTITY, (SAY CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN) AS THE PRIMARY BENEFICIARY, TO TURNING THE OPERATIONS OVER TO EXISTING "CAMPAIGNS- AND REALIZING A FRANCHISED DIVIDEND WITH FUNDS BENEFITING THE CATALYST FUND WHOSE RECEIPTS ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO PETITIONING LOCAL CHARITIES. ON THE HORIZON A RETURN OF LOUISVILLE THIRD CENTURY'S "STEEPLE CHASE", AS PART OF THE LIGHT UP LOUISVILLE HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS. BUILDING ON THE DREAM OF LOUISVILLE PATRON OF THE ARTS MARY BINGHAM, "TO LIGHT EVERY STEEPLE ON OUR SKYLINE" THIS "CHASE" A CATERED TOUR TO EXPLORE THE RICH ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF LOUISVILLE'S NUMEROUS CHURCHES, CATHEDRALS AND SYNAGOGUES AND THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY CELEBRATE THE SEASON. WE LOOK FORWARD TO AGAIN WORKING WITH THE CITY TO BRING TO "LIGHT" THE TREMENDOUS DIVERSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY AND THE HISTORIC PHYSICAL LEGACY BEQUEATHED TO THE PEOPLE OF LOUISVILLE.
