About

WE PRESERVE AND PROMOTE SPACE HISTORY AND HONOR THOSE WHO BUILT THE EARLY SPACE PROGRAM THROUGH OUR MONUMENTS AT SPACE VIEW PARK AND THROUGH OUR MUSEUM. OUR COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING ACCESSIONED, NUMBERED, PHOTOGRAPHED, AND PROPERLY IDENTIFIED AND PLACED, ACCORDING TO NATIONAL MUSEUM STANDARDS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROCESS THAT IS RAISING THE PROFILE OF THE FACILITY AND INCREASING OUR VALUE AS AN HISTORICAL INSTITUTION.OUR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT INITIATED A NEW PROGRAM IN 2016 CALLED STEAM SPACE, WHICH HAS THE OVERARCHING GOAL OF HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE DISCOVER THEIR OWN POTENTIAL IN THE STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART AND MATH) DISCIPLINES. THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON GRADES K-3, 4-8, AND 9-12 VIA TEACHING TOOLS, LESSONS, CLASSES & WORKSHOPS, CAMPS AND HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE MUSEUM.WE ARE ALSO PROMOTING OUR NEW SPACE WORKERS HALL OF HONOR, WHICH IS A DIGITAL SITE THAT PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANYONE WHO EVER WORKED IN THE SPACE PROGRAM. WE ARE INCREASING OUR DOCENT CORPS AND DEVELOPING NEW WAYS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO TOUR THE FACILITY.WE ARE HOLDING FUNDRAISERS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMMING. THESE INCLUDE OUR ANNUAL ASTRONAUT EVENT AND CHARITY MEMORABILIA AUCTIONS, OFFERING DONATED OR CONSIGNED SPACE MEMORABILIA.
