About this organization
Mission
Florida Center for the Blind - where loss of vision does not mean loss of independence! To provide free services for people who are visually impaired, empowering them to live safely, productively and independently.
About
The organization provides free vision rehabilitation to those who are blind or visually impaired. Services are provided through the following programs: blind babies; children; transition for teens; independent living skills; orientation and mobility; vocational rehabilitation/job readiness; braille instruction and access technology. The organization serves Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion and Union counties. The organization served a total of 220 unduplicated clients (7,610 hours). Of the total number of clients served, 32 percent were not funded through the state contracts either due to not qualifying for services through the division of blind services or because of exceeding the numbers of clients we are contracted to see.
