About this organization
Mission
Enzian exists to entertain, inspire, educate, and connect the community through film. Enzian Theater is committed to the truth, beauty and art of filmmaking. Located in Maitland, Enzian is a forward-thinking, unique, hybrid organization, serving the community with not only the very best in independent and foreign film, but also with a place to gather to discuss and contemplate the issues of the day. Enzian’s world-class programming attracts multigenerational patrons from racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities throughout Central Florida. The theater’s ambient charm – from the sprawling oaks and native plants, to the hand-crafted cocktails and gourmet, health-conscious fare at Enzian’s patio Eden Bar and inside the theater – creates a magical and impactful cinema experience beyond the screen. Enzian Theater is the oldest full-time, nonprofit cinema in the state of Florida. Since 1985, Enzian has exposed over two million people to more than 7,000 films, screening hundreds of independent and international films annually combined with a unique dining experience and an array of special programming that serves approximately 100,000 patrons each year. Enzian offers special programming in the form of film literacy series, seminars, guest artists, education programs, ticket donations, and film festivals for minority and underserved audiences in the diverse Central Florida community. For 30+ years, Enzian has championed the belief that "Film Is Art” and committed itself to bringing that art to Central Florida audiences. More than just a place to watch movies, Enzian is a gathering place for a wide variety of audiences in our community, including many underserved groups such as ethnic communities, children & families, students, independent filmmakers, and more. Enzian opens worlds to our audiences through its film programming and encourages community discussion before and after the movies.
