Midlands Mediation Center promotes the voluntary resolution of disputes through the process of mediation conducted by volunteers. MMC also trains community members on the availability and technique of mediation and other forms of conflict resolution as alternatives to litigation.

About

MMC staff and trained volunteers provide mediation services through court-connected programs to resolve domestic relations cases and small civil claims, before a jury trial or other means of adjudication. Volunteers also may serve as a neutral third party to address workplace, neighborhood, real estate or other disputes as an alternative to the litigation process.Volunteer mediators provided over 740 hours of service valued at $116,083 in fiscal year 2019. Clients with modest incomes are able to take advantage of a sliding-fee scale for the mediated sessions.MMC staff facilitate various training programs, including a course to equip lay mediators for magistrate court and community cases. Small, informal group sessions also are organized to educate the public about the merits and methods of peaceful conflict resolution and to provide opportunities to learn and practice skills.
