TRIDENT ACADEMY IS A SPECIAL PLACE WE ARE 1 OF ONLY 15 SCHOOLS ACCREDITED BY THE ACADEMY OF ORTON-GILLINGHAM PRACTITIONERS & EDUCATORS IN THE NATION TEACHING STUDENTS WITH LANGUAGE-BASED LEARNING DISORDERS. WE OFFER AN INDIVIDUALIZED DIAGNOSTIC AND PRESCRIPTIVE APPROACH THAT GIVES OUR STUDENTS THE CONFIDENCE AND TOOLS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED HERE AND WHEN TRANSITIONING BACK INTO MORE TRADITIONAL SCHOOL SETTINGS. TRIDENT ACADEMY TRULY FILLS A CRITICAL NEED IN THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AT TRIDENT ACADEMY, WE UNDERSTAND THAT STUDENTS WHO LEARN DIFFERENTLY NEED TO BE TAUGHT DIFFERENTLY. OUR TEACHERS EMPLOY THE ORTON-GILLINGHAM (OG) APPROACH IN ALL CLASSES WHICH OFFERS A VERY STRUCTURED, DIAGNOSTIC AND PRESCRIPTIVE APPROACH TO IDENTIFYING AND WORKING WITH EACH STUDENTS INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT TRADITIONAL SUBJECTS USING VARIOUS MULTI-SENSORY TECHNIQUES, EXPERIENCES OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM THAT CORRESPOND TO RELEVANT SUBJECT MATTER AND VIA THE INCORPORATION OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY. OUR STUDENT POPULATION IS SMALL COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL SCHOOLS - WE HAD 70 STUDENTS IN OUR PROGRAM FOR 2017-2018; HOWEVER, THIS IS BY DESIGN. WE BELIEVE THAT NOT ONLY DOES SMALL CLASSROOM SIZE AND INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION HELP OUR STUDENTS BECOME BETTER LEARNERS, BUT IT ALSO HELPS THEM BUILD CONFIDENCE AND SELF-AWARENESS. RESEARCH OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS SHOWS THE STRIDES STUDENTS CAN MAKE IN THEIR TEST SCORES IN AN AVERAGE ACADEMIC YEAR AT TRIDENT ACADEMY. ANALYZING STANDARDIZED PRE- AND POST- TEST SCORES BETWEEN 1995-2016, OUR STUDENTS: VOCABULARY SCORES INCREASED 115.6% COMPREHENSION SCORES INCREASED 152.2% MATHEMATICS SCORES INCREASED 286.8% DURING THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR, VOCABULARY SCORES INCREASED 236.1% COMPREHENSION SCORES INCREASED 188.1% MATHEMATICS SCORES INCREASED 348.8% TAPA THE TRIDENT ACADEMY PARENT'S ASSOCIATION (TAPA) RAISES FUNDS TO SUPPORT COMMUNINTY BUILDING ACTIVITIES LIKE THE FALL FESTIVAL & FIELD DAY.
