Coastal heritage preserve is a 604-acre tract of undeveloped land on the west end of Galveston Island comprised of estuarine and palustrine wetlands, tidal flats, and coastal upland prairie habitat. This preserve will act as a platform for delivery of Artist Boat's integrated art and science-based environmental education programs. In 2015, Artist Boat completed the preserve's habitat management plan, began restoring the land by removing invasive species and constructing a prairie grass nursery, and created initial public access amenities such as picnic benches and mowed paths. During the fiscal year ended August 31, 2016, Artist Boat brought 417 students to the preserve to kayak, bringing the total number of students served by this grant to 5,203. The Moody Permanent Endowment Fund, Seay Foundation, and schools provided funds for the workshops
