WAM is a San Francisco/Oakland-based nonprofit/recording studio dedicated to the advancement of women, girls, and gender-diverse people in music/audio production, performing/recording arts, and creative tech, fields in which they are critically underrepresented (< 5%). Over 19+ years, WAM has provided training to 22,000+ underserved women, girls, and gender-diverse people and commissioned 450+ artists/ensembles from 21 countries to create, record, and present new works to Bay Area audiences of 2,000+ a year. WAM trains 4,000+ underserved people a year (including 2,000 under-resourced Bay Area youth) and has placed over 1,000 graduates in lucrative positions (Dolby, Facebook, Sweetwater). WAM’s world-class studio is the only in the world built/run entirely by women/gender-diverse staff.

Girls on the Mic provided year-round after-school STEM/creative technology training to over 1,500 under-served middle/high school girls (96% low income/91% girls of color) from 30+ partner schools across the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School Districts, exposing them to careers in technology and demonstrating the importance of STEM studies. WAM Core Certificate Training a music technology training and career certification program for low-income, young women. WAM Corps gave 92+ job-specific training workshops to over 400 young women in 2018. WAM Job Placement provides career counseling and job placement services for women pursuing careers in the recording and music technology industries. WAM placed 41 women in paid positions in 2018.WAM Internship Program WAM provided critical real-world technology work experience through internships for 28 young women in 2018.Recording Residencies - provided 36 underserved artists and ensembles from diverse cultures with free access to recording services, while providing paid work experience for 8 young women engineers in 2018.Sound Channel provides on-line technical training opportunities to under-served communities that do not have access to training due to geographic location, economic issues, child care or job schedules or disabilities. Sound Channel reached over 6,900 students from 129 countries in 2018.Local Sirens Women in Music Series is a quarterly, free performance series that promotes the careers San Francisco Bay Area women musicians, composers and artists. In 2018 this series presented performances by over 24 local women artists and reached an audience of over 1,800.WAM Membership program serves over 350 women from all over the world and provides discounts to workshops, magazines, conferences, audio gear as well as free access to a job board, resume listing service and technical forums.WAM Conferences presents panels, booths and networking opportunities at major conferences around the world. 2018 included The Audio Engineering Society Convention and the NAMM Convention. WAM also presents its own conferences for women. In 2018 WAM provided conferences in Los Angeles in partnership with Capitol Music Group and NY in partnership with YouTube and Jungle City Studios serving over 300 young women aspiring engineers and producers.
