About this organization
Mission
Restoration of historic synagogue as center for cultural, educational, & archival events
About
In addition to being a completely restored Orthodox synagogue available for tours and events, the JMCC offers programs throughout the year suitable for all families, regardless of ethnic or religious background. Our 'Coming to America: An Immigration Study Program' fulfills the Virginia SOL for local area schools. Ongoing programs include our music, lecture, and movie series, as well as a significantly expanded immigration exhibit and our growing archives of major Jewish entities and persons in the Hampton Roads area. Our music series this year included concerts celebrating 10 years of musical gems including among others the Wren Masters and representatives of WHRO, the local press organization. The lecture series highlighted two special areas of Jewish culture: humor and food; and our movies were ones with Jewish themes or artists with accompanying discussions led by Professor Andrew Quicke of Regent University. Finally, we are continually expanding and evolving our exhibit on 'Tidewater Jewish Immigration: Unique Spices in America's Melting Pot.'
