Mission

To seek equal justice for all by solving clients' legal problems, strengthening the voices of low-income communities, and rooting out the inequities that keep people in poverty.

About

Legal Aid Justice Center serves the metropolitan areas of Charlottesville, Richmond, Petersburg, and Northern Virginia. Our four programs, civil rights and racial justice, economic justice, justchildren, and immigrant advocacy continue to push forward our mission to seek equal justice for all by solving clients' legal problems, strengthening the voices of low-income communities, and rooting out the inequities that keep people in poverty. Each program combines legal representation, community organizing, and systemic advocacy to achieve real reforms for communities in Virginia. In our fiscal year ending June 30, 2018, our staff provided individualized legal services to over 1,600 Virginia families while providing outreach and legal education to well over ten thousand more. We won major impact cases across a wide range of poverty-law areas including immigration, worker's rights, consumer rights, and housing rights. We led several major campaigns designed to reform aspects of Virginia law that punish poverty, and we provided legal and logistical support to many coaltions and local groups working on equity issues including police accountability, affordable housing, and protections for immigrants.
