HEROES' singular goal is to honor the supreme sacrifice made by law enforcement officers and firefighters who give their lives in the line of duty while ensuring the safety of citizens in the greater Washington area. We honor these fallen heroes by assisting their spouses and children, beginning within 24 hours of the tragic loss and continuing indefinitely. To date, HEROES and its 100 members have supported the surviving families of over 195 officers that have been killed in the line of duty. Although a regional organization, the umbrella of coverage is immense. Geographically HEROES, Inc. covers the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George counties in Maryland, Fairfax, Arlington and Prince William counties in Virginia and the cities of Manassas, Fairfax and Alexandria. Coverage is extended to every sworn law enforcement officer and both volunteer and professional firefighters. This includes federal officers who are assigned within this jurisdiction to offices of the FBI, Secret Service, US Marshalls, US Park Police, US Capitol Police, DEA and numerous others.
