COMMUNITY INVESTMENT: THE UNITED WAY OF THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE INVESTSCONTRIBUTIONS IN THREE IMPACT AREAS: 1) HELPING CHILDREN AND ADULTS SUCCEED IN LEARNING TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL; 2) PROVIDING EMERGENCY AND CRISIS HELP AND SUPPORTS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC SECURITY AND STABILITY; AND 3) IMPROVING ACCESS TO AND AWARENESS OF LOCAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS SERVICES TO EMPOWER AND SUPPORT ALL NEIGHBORS IN ACHIEVING BETTER HEALTH AND WELLNESS. INTENSE STEWARDSHIP OF DONORS' DOLLARS IS PROVIDED TO ENSURE ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE DIRECTED TO LOCAL PROGRAMS SERVING THESE AREAS OF GREAT NEED IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS ACHIEVED EACH YEAR THROUGH A NETWORK OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS SERVING ON THE COMMUNITY IMPACT COMMITTEE FROM ALL FOUR COUNTIES WHO, IN CONJUNCTION WITH UNITED WAY STAFF, EVALUATE THE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND THE AGENCIES AND PROGRAMS WHICH DEMONSTRATE MEASURABLE RESULTS IN ADDRESSING THE NEEDS, INVESTING CONTRIBUTIONS INTO LOCAL PROGRAMS IN THE MOST EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE MANNER POSSIBLE, DIRECTING DOLLARS TO SPECIFIC PROGRAMS THAT ARE HELPING LOWER SHORE RESIDENTS. THE PROCESS ALLOWS UNITED WAY DONORS THE ADDED VALUE OF A SUPERIOR LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND STEWARDSHIP FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS. THE UNITED WAY COMMUNITY IMPACT COMMITTEE DEDICATES OVER 1,100 HOURS ANNUALLY TO ANALYZE EVERY PROGRAM'S OPERATIONS, BUDGET AND OUTCOMES IN DETAIL AND CONDUCTS COMPREHENSIVE ON-SITE REVIEWS. IN 2018-2019 YEAR, THE UNITED WAY OF THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE AND 39 OTHER LOCAL NONPROFIT ENTITIES RECEIVED CRITICAL FUNDING TO SUPPORT 78 PROGRAMS SERVING THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE COMMUNITY AND ITS RESIDENTS.
