Central Scholarship is devoted to helping individuals achieve a better life through higher education. We believe that education is a right, not a privilege and that scholarships are an investment, not an expense. We help make post-secondary education and career training more affordable for Maryland residents through need-based scholarships, emergency funds, and interest-free loans; we deliver College Cash, a financial education series with sessions focused on paying for college; and we advocate for state laws that improve college affordability for Maryland residents.

Central Scholarship (CS) provides need-based scholarships and emergency funds for high-performing students pursuing undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees. For most programs, students are eligible for up to $10,000 per year in assistance for post-secondary education. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019, CS processed nearly 6,000 applications and awarded 224 scholarships to students. Grants for urgent situations are available for students already receiving educational funding for degree programs. These funds are designated for non-educational expenses such as medical bills, transportation emergencies, or replacement of essential belongings after theft or fire. During the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2019, CS made emergency grants to nine students.
