The mission of Stand for Children is to ensure all students receive a high quality, relevant education, especially those whose boundless potential is overlooked and under-tapped because of their skin color, zip code, first language, or disability. • Educating and empowering parents, teachers, and community members to demand effective teachers and excellent schools; • Advocating for effective local, state, and national education policies and investments; and • Ensuring those policies impact classrooms and students and ensure teacher and principal effectiveness.
About
Stand Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington implemented Stand's national center for high school success (CHSS) program which is focused on supporting high school success programming, in particular the use of the freshman success approach. This work included running summer training institutes for educators on how to use the approach, using freshman success coaches to guide school-based teams in real time, and enabling cross-district and cross-school collaboration to spread best practices. Stand worked with 65 schools in Oregon, 13 in Tennessee, and launched the work in Washington by hiring staff and running summer institutes for teachers from 21 schools.
