The teachings of Dr. Deming enable organizations to flourish, families and communities to thrive, and people to experience a greater sense of fulfillment, joy, and success. Also known as Dr. Deming's “theory of management” and later his “System of Profound Knowledge,” the Deming Philosophy is a holistic approach to leadership and management. It brings together an understanding of variation, theory of knowledge, psychology, and appreciation for a system. The Deming System of Profound Knowledge® promotes transformation through an essential “lens” which will benefit anyone and any organization.

THE W. EDWARDS DEMING INSTITUTE'S AIM IS ENRICHING SOCIETY THROUGH THE DEMING PHILOSOPHY. THE INSTITUTE GUIDES INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES, RESOURCES AND GUIDANCE AROUND THE DEMING PHILOSOPHY. DEMING IS A TIMELESS AND PROVEN SOLUTION; A COLLABORATIVE MANAGEMENT APPROACH THAT ENABLES PEOPLE IN ALL ORGANIZATIONS TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE WITH THE AIM FOR EVERYONE TO WIN.THE DEMING PHILOSOPHY LOOKS AT THE WORLD THROUGH A LENS THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHERS. IT BRINGS TOGETHER AN UNDERSTANDING ABOUT VARIATION, THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE, PSYCHOLOGY AND APPRECIATION FOR A SYSTEM. THE DEMING SYSTEM OF PROFOUND KNOWLEDGE (SOPK) PROMOTES TRANSFORMATION THROUGH AN ESSENTIAL OUTSIDE "LENS" WHICH CAN BENEFIT VIRTUALLY ANYONE AND ANY ORGANIZATION. IN SHORT, SOPK IS A WAY FOR PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE AND LEARN. IN 2018, THE DEMING INSTITUTE HELD 12 EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES AND MADE PRESENTATIONS AROUND THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA TO CREATE GREATER AWARENESS AND ADOPTION OF THE DEMING PHILOSOPHY. THESE LEARNING EVENTS INCLUDED ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS AND THE 2.5-DAY DEMING MANAGEMENT METHOD SEMINAR FOR BUSINESS OWNERS, LEADERS AND MANAGERS, PRESENTED IN COLLABORATION WITH AILERON, A NONPROFIT IN THE DAYTON, OHIO AREA. IN MARCH, THE INSTITUTE PARTNERED WITH SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT THE DEMING MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE CONFERENCE. THE DEMING INSTITUTE AWARDED 26 SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, BUSINESS AND NONPROFIT PROFESSIONALS TO OUR LEARNING EVENTS IN 2018. THE INSTITUTE ALSO OFFERED FREE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES THROUGH THE NEW ECONOMICS VIRTUAL STUDY SESSIONS, 40 NEW DEMING PODCASTS AND 49 DEMING INSTITUTE BLOG POSTS, AS WELL AS YOUTUBE AND SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITIES. SUPPORTING THE INSTITUTE'S EFFORTS WERE 62 VOLUNTEERS WHO CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN 1,000 HOURS OF TIME.THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEMING INSTITUTE WAS CELEBRATED AT THE 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER. THE EVENT ALSO MARKED THE PUBLIC LAUNCH OF THE DEMING ONWARD CAMPAIGN FOR DEMING ONLINE, A CAMPAIGN TO RAISE $1.5 MILLION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DEMING ONLINE. DEMING ONLINE IS A NEW, INTERACTIVE COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER THAT WILL BLEND E-LEARNING COURSES, VIDEOS AND WEBINARS IN A PLATFORM AVAILABLE 24/7 FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. BY YEAR-END THE CAMPAIGN RAISED MORE THAN 30% OF THE GOAL IN GIFTS AND PLEDGES, AND PRODUCTION BEGAN ON DEMING ONLINE.
