THRIVE DCS DAILY BREAD/DAILY NEEDS PROGRAM INCLUDES THE BREAKFAST PROGRAM THAT SERVES 100 -150 MEN AND WOMEN FROM 8:30 -- 11:00 AM MONDAY-FRIDAY AND THE DINNER PROGRAM THAT SERVES 30 50 WOMEN AND CHILDREN MONDAY-FRIDAY FROM 2:00 -- 4:00 PM. IN ADDITION TO OUR ON-SITE MEALS, WE OFFER SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD SERVICES TO CLIENTS AS A PART OF OUR LUNCH-TO-GO PROGRAM MADE POSSIBLE BY A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SANDWICH STOP PRET A MANGER, IN WHICH CLIENTS CHOOSE FROM AN ASSORTMENT OF SALADS AND SANDWICHES TO TAKE WITH THEM WHEN THEY LEAVE OUR FACILITY. ADDITIONALLY, CLIENTS MAY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY, WHICH PROVIDES GROCERY BAGS THREE DAYS A WEEK THROUGH A REFERRAL PROCESS. THESE GROCERY BAGS ARE OFTEN UTILIZED BY CLIENTS LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS OR OTHER CHRONIC ILLNESSES BOTH AS A RESOURCE FOR NUTRITIOUS FOODS ESSENTIAL TO MAINTAINING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AND ALSO TO ALLEVIATE THE ECONOMIC BURDEN OF PAYING FOR HEALTHY FOOD AND COSTLY MEDICATION AND TREATMENTS. AS A PART OF OUR WEEKLY FARMERS MARKET, CLIENTS CAN PICK FROM A VARIETY OF FRESH AND ORGANIC FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AT NO COST. IN 2018, THRIVE DC SERVED 146,490 MEALS AND DISTRIBUTED 436,500 POUNDS OF EMERGENCY GROCERIES FROM OUR EMERGENCY PANTRY. IN ADDITION, WE GAVE OVER 20,900 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE AWAY THROUGH THE FRESH FOOD FRIDAYS INITIATIVE. SUPPLEMENTING THE NUTRITION PROGRAMMING, THRIVE DC ALSO PROVIDES FREE SHOWERS, LAUNDRY, AND CRITICAL CARE SUPPLIES, WHICH ARE AVAILABLE DAILY. LAST YEAR THRIVE DC OFFERED 4,859 SHOWERS AND 1,406 FREE LOADS OF LAUNDRY AND DISTRIBUTED 50,585 CRITICAL CARE ITEMS. OUR PROGRAM NOT ONLY PROVIDES OUR DISADVANTAGED NEIGHBORS WITH LIFE-SUSTAINING MEALS AND PERSONAL CARE SUPPLIES, BUT ALSO SERVES AS A GATEWAY TO COMPREHENSIVE SOCIAL SERVICES.
