The Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation, Inc. was formed in 1973 to establish, maintain, and preserve the home where Babe Ruth was born. In 1983, the foundation broadened its mission to include the Baltimore Orioles and local baseball, and was designated the official Baltimore Orioles museum. The museum has become the official archives for the Baltimore Colts. The museum also represents Baltimore's Ravens and Blast, Michael Phelps, and eight area universities. The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum is a national historic landmark and sports museum originally established to preserve and maintain the historic structure that was the birthplace of George Herman 'Babe' Ruth, Jr. The museum originates and administers sports-related activities and programs that educate, inform, and entertain the public.
