SUNAWARE EDUCATION OUR MISSION HAS TWO PRIMARY OBJECTIVES; TO EDUCATE AND ADVOCATE WITH THE AIM OF PREVENTING SKIN CANCER AND SAVING LIVES. OUR NATIONAL CURRICULUM, SUNAWARE K-12 PROGRAM IS CROSS-CURRICULAR, AGE APPROPRIATE, AND BUILDS ON KNOWLEDGE. THE CURRICULUM IS DELIVERED IN SCHOOLS AND ADAPTED FOR COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING. THIS PAST YEAR, OUR THREE STAFF EDUCATORS, PROVIDED 177 DAYS OF TEACHING IN SCHOOLS (47%), AT COMMUNITY EVENTS (41%) AND AT PROFESSIONAL SYMPOSIA (12%) REACHING OVER 100,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS. CMPF PARTNERED AGAIN THIS YEAR WITH THE MA DEPT. OF CONSERVATION AND RECREATION, THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AND BOSTON HARBOR NOW TO EDUCATE STAFF, TOURISTS AND VISITORS. SUNSCREEN STATIONS WERE SET UP ON SPECTACLE AND GEORGE'S ISLANDS AND FREE SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO THOUSANDS ALONG WITH AN EDUCATIONAL BOOKMARK. FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SKIN CANCER PREVENTION RECOGNIZED CMPF IN THEIR DON'T FRY DAY (DFD) CONTEST. THIS RECOGNITION WAS FOR PROCURING A PROCLAMATION FROM GOVERNOR BAKER, CONDUCTING COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL EVENTS, AND OBTAINING LOCAL NEWS COVERAGE. ERIN PRESUTTI, ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WAS A MEMBER OF THE DFD NATIONAL TASK FORCE. EDUCATING PROFESSIONALS ABOUT SUN PROTECTION AND SKIN CANCER PREVENTION IS ANOTHER WAY THAT WE PROMOTE OUR MISSION. OUR STAFF, BOARD MEMBERS, AND ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS PROVIDED PROGRAMS AT NURSING, MEDICAL, AND LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCES. MS. MARYELLEN MAGUIRE-EISEN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PRESENTED A POSTER AT THE INTERNATIONAL UV AND SKIN CANCER CONFERENCE IN TORONTO, CANADA. IN ADDITION, SHE WON THE 2018 MA AMERICAN NURSES ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD.
