TO ADVANCE EFFECTIVE PARENT ENGAGEMENT THROUGH INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY. THE PARENT INFORMATION CENTER OF DELAWARE, OFFERS ONE-TO-ONE ASSISTANCE, LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES, PROBLEM SOLVING AND SKILLS TRAINING TO BIOLOGICAL AND FOSTER FAMILIES OF CHILDREN AGE BIRTH TO 26 WITH THE BROAD RANGE OF DISABILITIES WITH A FOCUS ON SERVING FAMILIES THAT ARE LOW-INCOME AND LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENT. EACH YEAR PARENT INFORMATION CENTER OF DELAWARE SERVES UPWARD OF 3,600 FAMILIES. PARENT INFORMATION CENTER OF DELAWARE SERVICES ARE STATEWIDE, FREE OF CHARGE AND OFFERED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH.

PARENT INFORMATION CENTER OF DELAWARE, INC. (PIC) IS THE ONLY AND LARGEST NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION IN DELAWARE WHOSE MISSION IS TO SERVE FAMILIES OF TYPICALLY DEVELOPING CHILDREN AND OF CHILDREN WITH A BROAD SCOPE OF DISABILITIES, FAMILIES WHO ARE ECONOMICALLY AND EDUCATIONALLY DISADVANTAGED, AND FAMILIES WHO ARE NON-ENGLISH SPEAKERS, AND WHO BY REASON OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS ARE OFTEN LESS LIKELY TO BE ENGAGED IN THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. PIC PROVIDES THESE FAMILIES WITH INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND EFFECTIVE ADVOCACY SKILLS THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTATIONS, WEBINARS, WORKSHOPS AND ELECTRONIC NEWS BULLETINS. PARENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN PIC SPONSORED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES SEE IMPROVED FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. PIC ALSO ASSISTS SCHOOLS IN REACHING OUT TO UNDERSERVED FAMILIES AND IN DEVELOPING MEANINGFUL AND EFFECTIVE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT POLICIES AND ACTIVITIES. DURING FY19, PIC SERVED 2,458 FAMILIES, THE MAJORITY OF WHOM WERE LOW INCOME OR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS.
