IN 2018-19, PICO YOUTH & FAMILY CENTER (PYFC) CONTINUED TO STREAMLINE ITS PROGRAMMING MODEL TO FOCUS ON PROVIDING CAREER PATHWAY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IN ART, ENTERTAINMENT & TECHNOLOGY. PYFC EXPANDED ITS ROLEIN PROVIDING A FREE RECORDING STUDIO AND PERFORMANCE SPACE FOR YOUTH AND ASPIRING ARTISTS. OUR MUSIC PROGRAM PROVIDED 103 YOUTH TRAINING IN STATE OF THE ART AUDIO ENGINEERING AND MUSIC RECORDING CLASSES USING LOGICPRO, FL STUDIO, ABLETON AND PROTOOLS SOFTWARE. PYFC PROVIDES ARTIST DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS AND A PERFORMANCE SPACE FOR YOUTH-LED EVENTS THAT COMPLEMENTS OUR RECORDING STUDIO. YOUTH ARTISTS, WITH STAFF SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION, ORGANIZED PERFORMANCES AND CD RELEASE EVENTS FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS.(FOR FURTHER PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS, SEE SCHEDULE O)PYFC CONTINUED TO MAKE PROGRESS ON GOALS THAT WERE ESTABLISHED IN OUR STRATEGIC PLAN AND ALSO STARTED NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND PROGRAMMING TO STRENGTHEN OUR OFFERINGS IN YOGA, YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, COUNSELING, ART, ENTERTAINMENT AND TECHNOLOGY.IN THIS REPORTING PERIOD, PYFC SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED THE INNOVATIVE SOCIAL JUSTICE & MINDFULNESS SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS (AGES 8-13) AND SPRING BREAK'N HIP-HOP LEARNING ACADEMY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. BOTH CAMPS ARE DESIGNED TO BRING KIDS TOGETHER THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING TO PRACTICE THEIR POWER IN CREATING A BETTER WORLD WHERE WE TREAT EACH OTHER WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. PYFC ALUMNUS, CARLA GARCIA ALSO RELAUNCHED OUR YOUNG WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT CIRCLE, WHICH SHE WAS A MEMBER OF AS A YOUTH PARTICIPANT AND IS NOW LEADING THE GROUP AS A COLLEGE GRADUATE AND MENTOR. PYFC HAS ALSO RENEWED WEEKLY ACADEMIC TUTORING AND COLLEGE COUNSELING, AND RECENTLY LAUNCHED FREE FILMMAKING CLASSES FOR YOUTH. THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES SERVICES IN CULTURALLY RELEVANT AND ENGAGING COUNSELING FOR IMMIGRANT MOTHERS. CONTINUED PROGRAM OFFERINGS IN 2018-19 INCLUDED YOGA AND WELLNESS WORKSHOPS ALONG WITH STANDARD EVENTS SUCH AS ART FOR HEARTS AND THE HOPE & UNITY AWARDS GALA. PYFC'S UNIQUE AND VARIED PROGRAMMING PROVIDED TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO MORE THAN 275 REGISTERED YOUTH AND OUR CULTURALLY RELEVANT COMMUNITY EVENTS SUCH AS THE 20TH ANNUAL WESTSIDE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS ATTRACTED HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES FROM SANTA MONICA AND SURROUNDING WESTSIDE COMMUNITIES.ASIDE FROM SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES, PYFC PROVIDED A FREE SPACE DAILY FOR YOUTH AND COMMUNITY TO MEET, LEARN, PERFORM, AND CREATE THROUGH OUR INNOVATIVE FACILITY THAT OFFERS A FREE COMPUTER LAB, RECORDING STUDIO, BIG SCREEN AND PERFORMANCE SPACE. THROUGH THE CONTINUATION OF OUR DIGITAL DREAM PATHWAYS INITIATIVE, PYFC IS STRENGTHENING CAREER OPTIONS AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ART, ENTERTAINMENT AND TECHNOLOGY FOR UNDERSERVED YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION, PYFC CONTINUES TO SERVE AS A CENTER OF SUPPORT BY PROVIDING DIRECT SERVICES TO YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS IN RESUME AND JOB DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND REFERRALS TO PARTNERING AGENCIES.
