Mission

The mission of ARISE2Read is to close the literacy achievement gap for children in early elementary grades who are at risk for reading failure. To accomplish this mission we recruit and train volunteers from faith-based organizations, local businesses, government entities, other non-profits as well as individual community members. Our volunteers commit to serving one hour a week, typically from September to April. They are trained in a simple but effective protocol to work with two students, one each for 30 minutes. ARISE2Read also accomplishes our mission by providing 8 - 10 brand new books throughout the school year to help young children build their at home libraries.

About

Arise2Read has 1,074 volunteers toutoring 2nd & 3rd graders of all races, ethnicity, and religions in 42 schools. In the schools where tutoring by Arise2Read has taken place grade level reading scores have improved significially.
