The Learning Policy Institute conducts and communicates independent, high-quality research to improve education policy and practice. Working with policymakers, researchers, educators, community groups, and others, the Institute seeks to advance evidence-based policies that support empowering and equitable learning for each and every child. Nonprofit and nonpartisan, the Institute connects policymakers and stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels with the evidence, ideas, and actions needed to strengthen the education system from preschool through college and career readiness.

In the area of Deeper Learning, LPI conducted and analyzed research and released studies related to: performance assessments, social-emotional learning, and whole child education. LPI also launched a collaborative initiative to encourage the use of performance assessments in college admissions and placements. The studies and the work of the initiative were shared through a variety of channels, including email, traditional media, social media, and a variety of convenings.In the area of Educator Quality, LPI conducted and analyzed research and released studies related to: teacher shortages nationwide and in California, and ways to mitigate them; effective professional development for teachers and school leaders. LPI also updated an interactive map that provides a state-by-state look at key indicators of teacher supply and demand and equitable distribution of teachers.In the area of Early Childhood Learning, LPI conducted and analyzed research into effective early learning systems, releasing a report and brief on how to improve California's system. They were disseminated through a special event, email, social media, traditional media, and at a variety of convenings. In the area of Equitable Resources and Education, LPI co-sponsored a major event on equity in the United States, and hosted a parallel event on equity in education. The organization also conducted a study and released a report and interactive map on state strategies under the Every Student Succeeds Act to address increase equity, produced two studies on equitable school finance, and conducted research into and produced a study and event examining creating an equitable public school system. The publications and events were promoted through blogs, email, social media, and traditional media.
