Mission

SILT's mission is to permanently protect Iowa land to grow healthy table food.

About

Land protection: SILT representatives drive across the state to meet with landowners on their land to document the agricultural and natural resources, answer questions and further explore the potential for permanent protection within the stated goals of the landowner. Protection then includes performing further due diligence regarding title, environmental hazards, suitability to SILT's mission and capacity. Once the landowner and SILT move forward, SILT's legal team performs the closing and records the deed or easement. This pivotal program received a big boost in late 2018 from a 5-year $251,000 grant to support a full-time farm specialist.
