THE WILLIAM J. SEYMOUR INSTITUTE FOR BLACK CHURCH AND POLICY STUDIES WILL EDUCATE AND TRAIN BLACK CHURCH LEADERS (INCLUDING CLERGY, SEMINARIANS AND LAY MEN AND WOMEN) AS WELL THE INTERESTED PUBLIC, REGARDING A PROPER CHRISTIAN PHILOSOPHIC AND THEOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING OF COMPLEX QUESTIONS CONFRONTING THE BLACK CHURCH AT THIS PERIOD IN OUR HISTORY. AN UNCOMPROMISING COMMITMENT TO THE POOR INSPIRES THE SEYMOUR INSTITUTE'S MISSION BECAUSE OF THE GREATER VULNERABILITY OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED POPULATIONS TO THE HARMS THAT ARISE FROM IMPROPER SOCIETAL ACTION IN THE AREAS OF CONCERN.

IN 2018 SEYMOUR CONTINUED ITS SERIES OF SUMMITS ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. THE 2018 SUMMIT, HOSTED AT THE MUSEUM OF THE BIBLE IN WASHINGTON DC, WAS THEMED IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR'S DEATH. IT FOCUSED ON DR. KING AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, IN RESPONSE TO THE IMPERATIVE TO DEMONSTRATE THE IMPACT OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN OPERATION THROUGH THE BLACK CHURCH. IT WAS A FOCUS CRUCIAL TO THIS TIME WHEN THERE IS GROWING INTOLERANCE FOR THE EXERCISE OF FAITH. THE CONTINUATION OF THE STUDY GROUP ON FAITH AND SCIENCE, LAUNCHED IN 2017, CONSTITUTED ANOTHER MAJOR PROJECT OF THE INSTITUTE. IN ASSOCIATION WITH BIOLA UNIVERSITY AND THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA, TWO MAJOR MEETINGS OF THE GROUP TOOK PLACE IN FEBRUARY AND OCTOBER AT THE RESPECTIVE UNIVERSITIES. THE GROUP WAS RIGHTLY RENAMED THE RESEARCH GROUP ON POST SECULAR SCIENCE TO REFLECT THE TRUE NATURE OF THE ENDEAVOUR. WHILE 2018 SAW THE LAUNCH OF THE MLK ACADEMIC/SCHOLASTIC SUMMER PROGRAM FOR UNDERPERFORMING AFRICAN AMERICAN AND HISPANIC 5TH - 8TH GRADERS ATTENDING BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, IT ALSO WITNESSED A HIATUS IN THE PREACHING PROJECT BEGUN IN 2016. OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDED PRESENTATIONS AND PARTICIPATION AT MAJOR MLK 2018 EVENTS, PRO-LIFE AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM SUMMITS SUCH AS THE MLK SYMPOSIUM AT HARVARD KENNEDY SCHOOL, CALIFORNIA'S ONELIFE LA MARCH, THE 2018 MINISTERIAL TO ADVANCE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN WASHINGTON, DC; CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIUMS AT PRINCETON, HARVARD, THE SOCIETY OF PENTECOSTAL STUDIES, NAPA INSTITUTE, THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME AND OTHER UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTIONS. AS USUAL, TO REMAIN TRUE TO THE ORGANISATION'S MISSION, THE PRINCIPALS PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST CONFERENCES.
