Therapy Dogs of Santa Barbara provided humane education and literacy programs, at no cost, to approximately 1,500 children and young adults at several Title 1 (low income) elementary schools and children's organizations, as well as institutions of higher learning throughout Santa Barbara County. The organization continued to expand its innovative literacy program, ARF!(Animals + Reading = Fun!), which gives "reluctant readers" in grades K-6 an opportunity to improve their reading skills and develop empathy for animals by reading aloud to specially trained therapy dogs.
