GIRL SCOUTS SPIRIT OF NEBRASKA BUILDS GIRLS OF COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER, WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. GIRL SCOUTS WAS FOUNDED IN 1912 BY JULIETTE GORDON LOW. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO PATH TO LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN; JULIETTE BELIEVED PASSIONATELY THAT GIRLS SHOULD BE GIVEN THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AS BOYS TO DEVELOP PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, AND SPIRITUALLY. SHE KNEW AN ALL-GIRL ORGANIZATION COULD CHANGE THE WORLD. THERE ARE NOW MORE THAN 59 MILLION WOMEN THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES WHO HAVE BENEFITTED FROM THE GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE (GSLE). IN GIRL SCOUTS, GIRLS ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT HELP THEM DISCOVER THEMSELVES AND THEIR VALUES, CONNECT WITH OTHERS, AND TAKE ACTION TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. ESTABLISHED IN 1926, GIRL SCOUTS SPIRIT OF NEBRASKA IS ONE OF 112 COUNCILS IN THE UNITED STATES. GIRL SCOUTS IS THE LARGEST GIRL-SERVING ORGANIZATION IN NEBRASKA WITH 19,000 GIRL AND ADULT MEMBERS. THE COUNCIL OPERATES SIX SERVICE CENTERS, SIX CAMPS, AND ONE OUTDOOR EDUCATION FACILITY, GIVING GIRLS EASY ACCESS TO THE NATURAL WORLD AND MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN GIRL SCOUT PROGRAMS. GIRL SCOUTS PROVIDES AGE-APPROPRIATE, PROGRESSIVE EXPERIENCES WITH FOUR PROGRAM FOCUS AREAS: STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH), ENTREPRENEURSHIP, LIFE SKILLS, AND OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES.
