About
Medical mission to village of Olony, Northern Uganda. A team of 10 medical & construction professionals continue teaching village healthcare workers basic hygiene,first aid & CPR. Teams held programs of basic sanitation & safety for children while providing multi-vitamins and other medications. There is high neonatal & maternal mortality due to the fact that women have little to no access to prenatal care & most babies are born in the village with the assistance of midwives with no formal training other than traditions. The team taught village midwives and healthcare workers critical prenatal care "Helping Babies Breathe" programs and family planning to reduce mortality rates. "Basic Life Support in Obstetrics" courses were taught by 3 nurses certified in this course . Maternal survival methods were taught to control hemorrhaging and methods to ensure safe delivery when problem deliveries, breach, shoulder,& dystocia are present. Four village midwives and 15 village healthcare workers received this training in the winter and summer programs. Olony has one well a good walking distance away for many to serve the community of 700. The community needed a closer sufficient clean water source. A natural spring was identified within the community,then our construction team, engineers, and community members constructed a "Spring Box" secured from animals to provide the much needed clean water source for the community.Also, more hand-washing stations and latrines were created to increas community sanitation and prevent disease.
