About this organization
Mission
THE MISSION OF MAISHA PROJECT IS TO TRANSFORM LIVES AND EMPOWER COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING LASTING SOLUTIONS TO ADDRESS POVERTY, HUNGER, DISEASE AND UNDER-EDUCATION. MAISHA HAS SEEN SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENTS IN EACH OF OUR FIVE PROJECTS.MAISHA IS DETERMINED TO BREAK THE VICIOUS CYCLE OF POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION, HEALTH, EMPOWERMENT, INFRASTRUCTURE AND MISSIONS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR EACH CHILD AND THEIR COMMUNITY. THE IMPACT IS TOLD ONE SUCCESS STORY AT A TIME AND IS COLLECTIVELY KNOWN AS THE "MAISHA STORY." THE STORY BEGAN WHEN ANNA LANSON GAVE BEATRICE A SPONSORSHIP FOR EDUCATION. THE STORY OF TRANSFORMATION CONTINUES ONE PERSON AT A TIME THANKS TO A COALITION OF SUPPORT.
About
EDUCATION IS THE HEART OF MAISHA. WE KNOW FROM THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF BEATRICE, OUR FOUNDER, AND FROM SO MANY OF THE CHILDREN WHO'VE GONE THROUGH OUR PROGRAM THAT EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO A BETTER TOMORROW. IN 2019, 896 CHILDREN ATTENDED THE VARIOUS SCHOOLS ACROSS KENYA WITH THE SUPPORT OF MAISHA PROJECT.THIS YEAR WE ARE SO UNBELIEVABLY PROUD OF OUR THIRTY-SEVEN 12TH-GRADE GRADUATES, OUR FORTY-ONE 8TH-GRADE GRADUATES, AND OUR 5 COLLEGE GRADUATES ALL FROM MAISHA!! WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT! IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE BECOME OF THESE YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS IF THEY DID NOT HAVE THE MAISHA ACADEMY? WHERE WOULD THEY HAVE ENDED UP WERE IT NOT FOR THE INVESTMENT YOU ARE MAKING IN THEIR FUTURE? IT'S HORRIBLE TO THINK ABOUT, WHICH IS WHY WE CAN NEVER THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR STANDING IN THE GAP FOR THESE CHILDREN AND PROVIDING A BRIDGE OF HOPE FOR THEM TO BECOME ALL THAT GOD CREATED THEM TO BE!FEEDING PROGRAM IS VERY VITAL TO EDUCATION LIFE OF A CHILD.SO MANY TIME DURING JESUS' MINISTRY ON EARTH, HE WOULD FIRST PROVIDE A MEAL TO THE CROWD OF PEOPLE WHO GATHERED AROUND TO LISTEN TO WHAT HE WAS SAYING. HE KNEW THAT IF PEOPLE WERE HUNGRY, THEY WOULD BE LESS LIKELY TO HEAR AND/OR RECEIVE WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO TEACH THEM. HE KNEW THAT AN EMPTY STOMACH MAKES EVERYTHING IN LIFE MORE DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY LEARNING SOMETHING NEW. THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL TRUTH THAT WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN AT MAISHA. CHILDREN WHO ARE HUNGRY ARE LESS LIKELY TO ATTEND SCHOOL ON A REGULAR BASIS. AND EVEN IF THEY DO, THEY DON'T RETAIN WHAT THEY ARE BEING TAUGHT, AND MANY TIMES EITHER FAIL OR DROP OUT OF SCHOOL ALTOGETHER. FOR A CHILD TO HAVE ANY CHANCE AT ALL IN LIFE, THEY MUST FIRST HAVE THEIR BASIC NEEDS OF FOOD AND NUTRITION PROVIDED. MAISHA WAS SO HUMBLED TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE 360,000 MEALS IN 2019 TO HUNGRY BOYS AND GIRLS, THANKS TO YOUR GIVING. THIS IS INCREDIBLE! THE CRIES OF MANY HUNGRY CHILDREN WERE ANSWERED THIS YEAR, BECAUSE OF YOU. WE KNOW THAT WHEN CHILDREN ARE FED, THEY HAVE THE ENERGY, VITALITY AND DESIRE TO STAY IN SCHOOL WHICH IS THE KEY TO THEM BREAKING THE DEADLY CYCLE OF POVERTY. THANK YOU FOR HELPING US PROVIDE THIS BRIDGE OF HOPE THROUGH OUR SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM. A MEAL IN SCHOOL WILL KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL AND GIVE THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE.THANKS TO OUR COMMUNITY MEDICAL CLINIC LOCATED AT THE MAISHA ACADEMY, 2,400 PEOPLE RECEIVED MEDICAL CARE IN 2019. THIS CLINIC IS AN ESSENTIAL AND LIFE-CHANGING RESOURCE TO NOT ONLY OUR STUDENTS, BUT ALSO TO THE FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY SURROUNDING MAISHA WHO ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD MEDICAL TREATMENT ELSEWHERE.CARE AND ENCOURAGEMENT WERE ALSO GIVEN TO THOSE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS THROUGH OUR LIVING POSITIVE PROGRAM. THIS VITAL PROGRAM REACHES SOME OF THE MOST HURTING AND FORGOTTEN PEOPLE IN THE NYALENDA SLUMS WHERE NEARLY EVERY FAMILY IS EITHER INFECTED OR AFFECTED BY HIV/AIDS. PARTICIPANTS IN OUR PROGRAM RECEIVE HEALTHY NUTRITION, HOME-BASED CARE, A MEDICAL INSURANCE CARD FOR ESSENTIAL MEDICINES AND TREATMENT, EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EMOTIONAL/SPIRITUAL SUPPORT. FOR MOST OF OUR LIVING POSITIVE PARTICIPANTS MAISHA IS THEIR ONLY AVENUE OF HELP. WITHOUT THE RESOURCES PROVIDED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, THEY WOULD SURELY HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE IN THEIR LIVES AT ALL. WE ARE EQUIPPING THEM WITH ESSENTIAL AND LIFESAVING TOOLS TO TURN THEIR NEGATIVE CIRCUMSTANCES INTO POSITIVE TESTIMONIES OF CHANGE AND HOPE.
