About this organization
Mission
To guide graduate students in serving disadvantaged communities needing health and human services
About
The Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellows Program (PSFP) is the only yearlong, direct service, interdisciplinary, experiential learning program for graduate students that addresses the needs of disadvantaged citizens in southwest Pennsylvania. The PSFP supports 12-25 exceptional fellows each year as they encounter the deeply entrenched problems facing the most vulnerable members of our society by giving 4,400 hours of direct service to 5,000 people annually. A typical class of fellows represents roughly 4 to 6 different colleges and universities. PSFP - although a separate 501(c)(3) entity - is also one of 14 chapters of the Albert Schweitzer National Fellowship that promotes health and environmental justice by developing leaders in service who embody the legacy of famed physician and humanitarian, Albert Schweitzer. Since 1997, Schweitzer fellows have worked at over one hundred community sites throughout the greater Pittsburgh region.
