Mission

To provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to grow and develop through therapeutic, educational and recreational activities, while on a horse.

About

Provide equestrian therapy to individuals with disabilities. In 2018, 90 riders participated in one hour lessons four days a week for a total of 23-25 classes per eight week sessions. Through the generous support of volunteers and donations from individuals and businesses in our community, the academy now houses eleven therapy horses and three miniature horses used to teach new riders about horses and their care. Horseback riding helps individuals with learning and cognitive disabilities improve their concentration, recognition, vocabulary, and task completion. Riders experience increased balance, muscle control, and strength. All lessons are taught by instructors who go through Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) training and are certified PATH instructors. Volunteers help instructors with the sessions, care for the horses, help maintain the barn, and work in the front office. Approximately 680 volunteers have worked with the academy in 2018.
