YEAR-END REFLECTION.THIS WAS AN AMAZING AND IMPORTANT YEAR FOR US IN SACHAMAMA AND WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE EXPERIENCES, OPPORTUNITIES, TEACHINGS AND RELATIONSHIPS DURING THE LAST YEAR. WE INSPIRED, ENGAGED, AND TRAINED LATINX COMMUNITIES FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE TO BECOME SPOKESPEOPLE ANDACTIVISTS, HELPING THEM CONNECT THEIR STORIES, VALUES, AND INTEREST TO THE AVAILABLE CLIMATE SOLUTIONS AND THE BENEFITS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. WITH EACH OF OUR TRAINING EVENTS, LATINX GATHERINGS, SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS, AND MEDIA ENGAGEMENTS, WE CONTINUE EMPOWERING AND ORGANIZING INDIVIDUALSTO BUILD HEALTHY MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITIES, WHILE HELPING DEVELOP A MORE INCLUSIVE AND BROADER NARRATIVE THAT NURTURES DIVERSITY AND LATINX LEADERSHIP.HIGHLIGHTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.- EXPANDED OUR LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS IN FLORIDA AND TEXAS, BRINGING TOGETHER OVER 15 ORGANIZATIONS IN TOTAL FROM FAITH, IMMIGRATION, LEADERSHIP, HEALTH, AND MEDIA.- TRAINED 160 NEW CLIMATE LEADERS AND ENGAGED OVER 2500 PEOPLE IN CA, CO, FL, AND TX.- DEVELOPED OUR CLIMATE-ACTION CURRICULUM, A YEAR-ROUND CIVIC PROGRAM FOCUSING ON COMMUNICATIONS AND SYSTEM-THINKING.- INTEGRATED SALESFORCE AS OUR CRM SOFTWARE TO TRACK RELATIONSHIPS, RESOURCES, AND EXPENDITURES IN OUR PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS MEASURE DELIVERABLES AND IMPACT.- INTEGRATED XERO AND GUSTO AS OUR ACCOUNTING AND PAYROLL SERVICES RESPECTIVELY, CONVERTING EMPLOYEES THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY PAID AS 1099 CONSULTANTS TO STAY COMPLIANT WITH LABOR REGULATIONS.- HOSTED OUR FIRST GREEN GALA AWARDS WITH OVER 250 ATTENDEES AND OVER 45 NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIA OUTLETS PHYSICALLY COVERING THE EVENT.- LAUNCHED THE ROOTS PLATFORM, OUR GIFT-PROGRAM CATERED TO HIGH PROFILE INDIVIDUALS WILLING TO INVEST IN THE LONG-TERM MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION.LESSONS LEARNED.- THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL RELEVANCEAS PART OF OUR ONGOING CONVERSATIONS WITH COMMUNITY AND PARTNERS, WE IDENTIFIED A COMMON THEME THAT PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE WHEN TRYING TO EFFECTIVELY ENGAGE LATINX GROUPS. REPEATEDLY, WE HEARD STORIES IN WHICH GROUPS -WITH BEST INTENTIONS- CAME IN TO HELP COMMUNITIES WITH THEIR IMMEDIATE NEEDS, BUT IT'S CLEAR THEY OFTEN FAILED TO ADDRESS THE DEEPER STRUCTURES AND MENTAL MODELS THAT CONTINUE TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY IN NEED.IN ORDER TO FULLY DEVELOP THE LEADERSHIP AND OWNERSHIP OF CLIMATE ACTION WITH IN LATINX COMMUNITIES, WE HAVE TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS AND MECHANISMS FOR THE COMMUNITIES TO ADOPT CLIMATE SOLUTIONS THROUGH CULTURALLY SENSITIVE TRAININGS AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING. THIS WILL EMPOWER THE COMMUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT THESE SOLUTIONS BY THEMSELVES RATHER THAN BEING PUSHED DOWN BY CLIMATE CHANGE ORGANIZATIONS. IF WE FAIL TO DO THIS, WE WILL BE PERPETUATINGTHE PROBLEM.THIS IS THE REASONING BEHIND OUR CLIMATE-ACTION CURRICULUM, DESIGNED TO BRING LATINX TO THE CENTER OF DECISION-MAKING THOUGHT PARTICIPATORY LEARNING PROCESSES. BY TAPPING INTO COMMUNITIES' KNOWLEDGE TO HELP ADDRESS SOME OF THE SYSTEMIC CHALLENGES WE FACE, WE PLAN TO DETERMINE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND BRING FORWARD COMMUNITY-BASED AND POLICYRELATED CLIMATE SOLUTIONS FROM WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.- THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATIONS.COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING ARE ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO GROW OUR IMPACT AS AN ORGANIZATION! AS AN UPCOMING NONPROFIT, WE ARE CONSTANTLY UNDER STRONG PRESSURE TO INVEST ALL OF OUR RESOURCES INTO PROGRAM EXPENSES, MAKING IT VERY CHALLENGING TO INVEST IN COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING STRATEGIES. THE REALITY IS THAT OUR ABILITY TO BRING NEW VOICES TO THE CLIMATE CONVERSATION RELIES HEAVILY IN OUR STORYTELLING CAPABILITIES AND THE DIFFERENT PLATFORMS WE UTILIZED TO REACH WIDER AUDIENCES. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO TELL OURSTORIES IN AN EFFECTIVE, PROFESSIONAL MANNER IN ORDER TO INSPIRE VOLUNTEERS, SUPPORTERS AND NEW DONORS OUTSIDE OUR CIRCLE OF IMPACT.OUR PROOF OF CONCEPT HAPPENED THIS YEAR, WHEN WE DECIDED TO STRATEGICALLY INVEST IN ONE PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN. AS A RESULT, WE INCREASED OUR BASE OF SUPPORTERS, GREW OUR INDIVIDUAL ONE-TIME DONATIONS AND EXPANDED OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH BRANDS LIKE BLOOMINGDALE'S AND TELEMUNDO. AS PART OF OUR 2020 STRATEGY, WE ARE NOW PLANNING OUR FIRST NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE VOTING PARTICIPATION AND CLEAN ENERGY. IT WILL START WITH FIVE PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS (PSAS) THAT WILL BE ON ROTATION INTELEMUNDO NETWORK AND ITS AFFILIATES STARTING IN MARCH 2019.- THE IMPORTANT OF DATA.AS WE IMPLEMENT OUR CRM SOFTWARE THIS YEAR, WE TANGIBLY UNDERSTOOD THE IMPORTANCE OF DATA AND ANALYTICS IN OUR WORK. WHETHER WE ARE DEVELOPING THE LATINX LEADERSHIP IN THE CLIMATE MOVEMENT, GROWING OUR ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY, OR SECURING FUNDING TO EFFECTIVELY RUN OUR PROGRAMS, THIS CRUCIAL STEP HAS ALLOWED US TO HAVE A HOLISTIC VIEW OF OUR WORK, UNDERSTANDING WHERE WE NEED TO IMPROVE, AND ASSESS THE WORK IN REAL TIME IN A FRIENDLYAND STRATEGIC MATTER.WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT OUR SECOND YEAR OF FINANCIAL DATA WITHIN ONE SOFTWARE SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS US TO BETTER REVIEW AND MONITOR EXPENDITURES. WE'VE LEARNED THAT RUNNING CUSTOM REPORTS HAS BEEN MORE EFFECTIVE THAN HAVING VARIOUS SPREADSHEETS OF DATA AS WE DID IN PRIOR YEARS. THIS HAS ALLOWED US TO MAXIMIZE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE THE HIGHEST IMPACT FORTHE LOWEST COST. BY IMPLEMENTING AN EXPENSE TRACKING SOFTWARE, WE WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO DRILL DOWN ON THE DETAILS OF HOW AND WHY EXPENSES TAKES PLACE TO FIND OPPORTUNITIES TO SAVE MONEY IN THE FUTURE BY CONSOLIDATING VENDORS, REVIEWING OUR TRAVEL PATTERNS, AND ENSURING THAT OUR VOLUNTEERS HAVE THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO BE THE MOST EFFICIENT.
