Mission

Skiku's mission is to foster the health, recreation and competitive benefits of cross country skiing and biathlon through sustainable programs across Alaska.

About

Skiku organizes volunteer coaching teams made up of professional and elite cross country ski, running and biathlon coaches - Olympians, World Cup athletes, professional coaches, top high school skiers and recreational skiers - to provide 50 hours of service in each of more than 55 schools with a focus on remote and roadless rural Alaska Native villages. Skiku installs ski equipment in the communities we serve and trains local community-based facilitators to continue working with youth and adults on recreational activities year around. Ninety-five percent of the rural population served is Alaska Native American. Skiku also works with school districts and serves Title I schools in urban Alaska. This year Skiku provided 170 coaches who served 8,000 people. Not included in program expenses are volunteer coaching contributions valued at 236,980 and planning and logistics volunteers who contributed services of 12,546.
