About

Early Detection Service:HCB2 continued to collaborate with Henrico Health Department to offer a FluFIT clinic to the Richmond, VA community.The one-day event offers flu shots to community members while also assessing each attendee's risk of colorectal cancer. There were over 680 attendees and 82 in-home colorectal cancer screening kits were distributed to community members eligible due to their age, symptoms, or family history or a combination of the three. Each year HCB2 funds the purchase of 120 in-home screening kits for the FluFIT clinics and the testing strips for health departments to complete testing. In 2019, HCB2 volunteers also helped with the navigation to ensure the patients returned the completed screening kits which increased the compliance by 50%. HCB2 educates the medical team and attendees about the FIT in-home screening tool and the importance of early detection. Additional resources are distributed to attendees to help provide information about colon health and colorectal cancer prevention. In 2019 HCB2 increased their colorectal cancer screening program offered to the area free clinics. HCB2 purchased the FIT screenig tools and testing strips and provided education to five free clinics - Health Brigade, two Crossover Ministries, Goochland Cares and Health Heart free clinic. During 2019 HCB2 funded 371 in-home testing kits (FIT) for the free clinics to offer their uninsured patients in need of colorectal cancer screening.
