First North Carolina is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders. Working closely with First - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology - our PreK-12 robotics-based programs provide students a hands-on, mentor-led opportunity in project-based learning. We are committed to ensuring that every student in North Carolina has access to a high quality First experience.

The First Robotics Competition (FRC) program directly served approximately 2000 students working with approximately 600 mentors on 70 high-school robotics teams in North Carolina. During the six-week build season, teams designed, proto-typed, built, tested and programmed robots to compete in the first 'Destination: Deep Space' game and season. Each team competed in at least two qualifying competitions with 32 teams advancing to a state championship. Fourteen of those teams then advanced to the first championship in Houston to compete for awards and honors. Teamwork, gracious professionalism, perseverance and communication are the key components that make First 'more than robots.'
