Design Outreach's mission is to create life-sustaining solutions that alleviate global poverty.

About

A main focus of Design Outreach is providing LifePumps to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti. This includes manufacturing LifePumps, LifePumpLinks, LifeTaps and providing training/supply chain development with our various implementing partners. In 2018, DO manufactured 25 LifePumps and shipped them to Haiti, with 15 going to Water for Life and 10 to Global Outreach. DO also installed the first prototype LifePumpLink with ODRINO in Haiti. Prototype LifeTaps were installed in Haiti. LifePump training as well as supply chain development was conducted in Malawi, Zambia, and Haiti. In Malawi and Zambia, training was provided as part of a national train the trainer program with WASH managers, pump technicians, and government officials. The goal of the training program was to equip these individuals with the knowledge and expertise required to train local pump technicians on LifePump installation, operations, and maintenance. Trips with DO staff and volunteers were taken to Zambia in March, to Haiti in June, to Malawi in October, and to Malawi and Zambia in December. This provided the groundwork for partnership development with supply chain providers and missionary partners who are installing and maintaining LifePumps. Research and Development included improving LifePump, LifePumpLink, and LifeTap components. The total expenses for these programs, including hardware, shipping, and travel totaled $512,290 with contributions from Donors being $252,540.
