About

This past year Pegasus directed more of our energies into systematic change for all children in CYFD custody. In September, 2018, fourteen children in New Mexico's foster care system, joined by Disability Rights New Mexico and the Native American Disability Law Center, demand that the state agencies responsible for foster care in New Mexico provide the foster children with the essential care, stability, treatment and support that they need to grow and prosper, Pegasus attorneys are' next friends' for several of the plaintiffs. Pegasus has been able to increase our education work including: 1) school discipline reform by filing special education due process complaints on behalf pf children with disabilities; 2) ensuring equal access to education by representing students seeking access to public charter schools; 3) ensure student due process rights in discipline hearing by representing scores of students at regular education discipline hearing; and 4) collaborating with access to justice commission, CYFD juvenile probation. Additionally, Pegasus increased legal services to rural parts of New Mexico.
