Mission

Urban Roots uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community.

About

Urban Roots provides paid internships for young people between the ages of 14-23 years old to grow food for the community on a 3.5 acre farm in East Austin. Throughout the year, over seventy youths graduated from multiple youth development programs, through which they gained critical life, job and leadership skills, healthy relationships with food, and a sense of social responsibility. Youth, staff, and volunteers grew over thirty thousand pounds of produce, donating over 40% to twelve different local hunger relief organizations and selling the rest at local farmers markets and at local grocery stores and restaurants.
