About

CREATIVE YOUTH PRODUCTIONS INC. (CYP) PROGRAMS HAVE A STRONG FOCUS ON BUILDING ECONOMIC SUCCESS, STRONG LEADERSHIP SKILLS, CONFIDENCE AND THE ABILITY TO FOSTER THE SELF-ESTEEM AND COMPETENCIES OF YOUTH, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO ARE MOST AT RISK. AT ITS CORE, CYP'S PROGRAMS ARE ABOUT EDUCATION AND LITERACY. PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO READ, COMPREHEND AND WRITE EVERY DAY IN THE PROGRAM AND TO CREATE THE NEW PIECES OF ORIGINAL ART THAT THEY THEMSELVES HAVE A VOICE IN. THEY THEN HAVE TO TAKE WHAT THEY HAVE READ AND INTERPRET IT, WHETHER THROUGH SONG, DANCE, ACTING OR VIDEO. IT REQUIRES THEM TO THINK ON THEIR FEET AND PROCESS INFORMATION ACCURATELY AND COMMUNICATE IT EVEN MORE CAREFULLY. FOR SOME YOUTH, THIS ALSO BECOMES A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE. CYP PAYS STIPENDS TO (ESTIMATED) 10 YOUTH LEADERS (MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS) THROUGHOUT THE YEAR PROGRAM. THIS PAST YEAR 23,633 WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO BE ROLE MODELS WHILE LEADING IN CREATING THEIR OWN ORIGINAL IDEAS IN ACTING, DIRECTING CHOREOGRAPHY, SONGS AND STORYLINES. CPY OFFERS REAL JOB EXPERIENCE TO STUDENTS SO THEY UNDERSTAND THE REALITIES OF HAVING A JOB AND BEING COMMITTED AND THE EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT WOOK IS. CYP FINANCIALLY SUPPORTS THE LOCAL BRIDGEPORT COMMUNITY BY PAYING ALMOST 20,000 IN STIPENDS OUT OF THE ANNUAL BUDGET. CYP PROVIDES OVER 16 EVENTS AND PERFORMANCES SO YOUTH TO SEE IF THEIR WOOK IS EFFECTIVE WITH AUDIENCES. CYP SERVES OVER 120 CHILDREN A YEAR; 98% ARE AT RISK. THE SUCCESS RATE FOR YOUTH COMPLETING THE PROGRAM IS 85% AND 100% OF THE PARTICIPANTS GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL.
