Mission

Catch Up & Read (CAR)'s mission is to catch at-risk elementary students up to grade level reading by 3rd grade. CAR provides both teacher training and after-school tutoring for low-performing students. CAR develops the solid instructional foundation that meets the needs of every child in the classroom for years to come. This leveraged model enables us to reach more children and achieve a long term, scalable impact in our public schools. 90% of students participating in Catch Up & Read reach grade level in 1 year and advance at a rate that is 3 times that of their peers.

About

Catch Up & Read operates a reading intervention program. The program, launched at Sudie Williams Elementary (DISD), was developed out of concern for students who advance to middle school, but are often two grades behind reading level; thereby reducing their chance for academic success or graduation. The goal for Catch Up & Read is to offer 'wrap around' support programs for the students, aiming for long-term sustained reading and academic success. By the end of a 12-week session, testing results indicate an average reading improvement of one full grade level.
