About

DURING THE PERIOD FROM 10/1/18 THROUGH 9/30/19, THE PERFORMING ARTS PROJECT WAS ABLE TO CARRY OUT OUR MISSION BY PROVIDING CUTTING EDGE PERFORMING ARTS TRAINING. IN JULY, 174 STUDENTS ATTENDED OUR 3 SUMMER INTENSIVES. HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS SPENT FIVE-WEEKS WITH US STUDYING ACTING, DANCE, VOICE, WRITING AND MORE. DURING THESE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS, STUDENTS HAD THE CHANCE TO WORK WITH OVER 50 PERFORMANCE PROFESSIONALS FROM THE BROADWAY AND FILM COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAMS CULMINATE IN PERFORMANCE WEEKENDS AS WELL AS INFORMATION PANELS FOR PARENTS. TOPICS INCLUDED: PREPARATION FOR A PROFESSIONAL CAREER IN THE ARTS IN NEW YORK, PREPARATION FOR THE COLLEGE APPLICATION AND AUDITION PROCESS, AND HOW TO BEST SUPPORT AN ARTISTIC CHILD. OUR FACULTY ALSO PARTICIPATED IN MASTER CLASSES AND AUDITIONS AROUND THE COUNTRY IN CITIES INCLUDING ATLANTA, NEW YORK, HOUSTON, AUSTIN, SAN FRANCISCO, DAYTON, LOS ANGELES, PHILADELPHIA AND CHICAGO. WE HELD ONLINE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES USING THE WEBSITES, CHARITY BUZZ AND OMAZE, WHERE BIDDERS WERE ABLE TO GET TICKETS AND BACKSTAGE TOUR TO BROADWAY PRODUCTIONS. WE ALSO HELD A SHOW WHERE PERFORMERS SHARED THEIR PERFORMANCE CHALLENGES AND RESILIENCE IN ATTEMPTING THESE PERFORMANCES AGAIN. THIS YEAR, WE ALSO CONTINUED THE PORCH THEATER INITIATIVE. THIS PROGRAM BRINGS CLASSIC THEATER TO THOSE WHO ARE NOT NORMAL ATTENDEES AT THE THEATER. THIS EVENT HARKINS BACK TO THE TIME WHEN NEIGHBORS SHARED MUSIC ON THEIR PORCH CREATING COMMUNITY TOGETHERNESS. FOLLOWING THE FIRST PERFORMANCE IN JULY OF 2018 IN BELPORT, NEW YORK, WE PARTICIPATED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MATERIAL FOR FUTURE GROWTH OF THE PROGRAM.
