Major exhibitions included 'Nature's Gift', 'Politics of Seeing: Dorothea Lange', 'Respect: Hip-Hop Style and Wisdom and 'J.B. Blunk: Nature, Art and Everyday Life'. Major public programs included the weekly 'Friday Nights @ OMCA;' the annual community celebrations for Oakland Public Library Summer Reading Program, Days of the Dead, the Lunar New Year; and 'OMCA Connect,' the community engagement initiative that takes OMCA programming to neighborhood events throughout Oakland. The museum measures its success in terms of number of visitors and members; contributions to the museum field and scholarship in California art, history, and natural sciences; critical and media response to exhibitions; and visitor comments and feedback.
