HEARTS success is exhibited through its work in many facets of animal and human welfare. HEART has played a significant role in reducing injuries and the risk of spreading disease to pets, wildlife and humans, reducing unwanted pregnancies in pets and reducing the number of surrendered, abandoned and euthanized animals. HEARTs Safe Haven for Pets & Packs program has been a key element in keeping pets and their homeless human companions healthy, safe and together in temporary housing facilities while working towards acquiring permanent housing and ultimately reducing homelessness in Orange County, California.HEART has played a major role in assisting governing entities in the set up and operation of pet housing & protocols at homeless transitional shelters, and has provided pet rescue, rehabilitation, fostering and re-homing of pets at high risk of euthanasia. HEARTs team is also certified as responders for disaster relief and has provided assistance at areas hit or threatened by fires.HEARTs mobile pet care services held in Orange and Los Angeles Counties in 2018 included over 60 public low cost vaccine clinics; spaying and neutering of 44 county animal shelter pets; free spaying & neutering of 50 pets owned by homeless people; over 25 free comprehensive healthcare clinics for homeless pet owners; and over 250 free emergency house calls for pets owned by the homeless.Services provided: exams & consultations, extensive communications with homeless pet owners via phone, text & e-mail; vaccinations; microchipping; parasite control; nail trimming; anal gland expressions; spaying & neutering; minor to extensive surgeries; dental care; treatment for injuries & infections; pet licensing; socialization & training; emotional support; animal certification; distribution of educational materials and pet supplies; boarding; transportation; and reunification assistance of lost and impounded pets with their human companions.
