The MISSION of AmeriCorps St. Louis is to enhance the professional skills and life-long service ethic of those who serve; to respond to critical unmet needs in the areas of emergency response and environmental conservation; to leverage service of volunteers; and to build the capacity of our partnering agencies and communities we serve. The VISION of AmeriCorps St. Louis is to be a purveyor of skill, a beacon of hope, and a model of public stewardship. THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM RESPONDED TO 6 DISASTERS, RECRUITED 671 VOLUNTEERS, TRAINED AN ADDITIONAL 295 AMERICORPS DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEER MANAGERS, AND ASSISTED 15,550 INDIVIDUAL DISASTER SURVIVORS. THE DISASTERS RANGED FROM HURRICANE IRMA IN FLORIDA AND HURRIANCE MARIA IN PUERTO RICO, A TORNADO IN MALDON, MISSOURI, AND 3 WILDFIRES IN MISSOURI.DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, THE AMERICORPS ST. LOUIS HOMELESS SHELTER WAS OPEN FOR 12 NIGHTS, SERVED 861 GUEST DAYS, AND PROVIDED 1,992 MEALS WITH THE HELP OF 146 VOLUNTEERS.IN THE PROGRAM AREA OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, AMERICORPS ST. LOUIS PARTNERED WITH 10 PARTNERS, TAKING PART IN PRESCRIBED BURNS, INVASIVE SPECIES REMOVAL, HABITAT AND GLADE RESTORATION, FIRELINE PREPARATION, TRAIL CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE, RECREATIONAL SITE MAINTENANCE, FENCE CONSTRUCTION, HAND CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGES ON NATIONAL FORESTS, AND TIMBER STAND IMPROVEMENT. IN TOTAL, 18,704 ACRES WERE PROTECTED OR STEWARDED, 6,705 HAZARD TREES WERE REMOVED, AND 529 MILES OF TRAIL WERE CONSTRUCTED OR MAINTAINED.ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH LOCAL SERVICE DAYS, MEMBERS SERVED 379 HOURS SERVING AT 9 OTHER NONPROFITS IN THE ST. LOUIS AREA.
