Mission

Lydia's House Works In Faith To End Domestic Violence By Being A Place Of Healing And A Voice Of Hope For Abused Women And Their Children.

About

For 25 years, Lydia's House has been providing safe, confidentially- located transitional housing and requested resources for abused women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Lydia's House continues to be the only stand-alone/confidentially-located transitional housing program in Missouri and is one of the largest in the country. Since its inception in 1995, over 1,000 women and their children have come into Lydia's House for safety and requested resources. Lydia's House serves 50 women and up to 85 children at one time with an average transitional housing stay of 18 months. In this fiscal year, the Lydia's House Transitional Housing Program provided 32,185 nights of safety and requested supportive services to a total of 123 (63 women and 60 children) as they made the transition from emergency shelter to safe independent living after receiving all the resources that were needed to overcome domestic violence. The program held 5,858 individual case management sessions to help women and children and to provide resources to achieve their educational, health, legal, and other related goals. Of those sessions, Lydia's House provided 375 sessions of individual advocacy related to legal issues such as Orders of Protection and other Civil/Criminal Advocacy. Seventy-two (72) women's support groups and seventy-two (72) children's support groups were conducted to provide the opportunity to share experiences, knowledge, and strength related to the violence they experienced. Periodic Satisfaction Surveys show that 97% of adult survivors receiving resources from Lydia's House reported having an increased knowledge of resources and 100% reported an increased sense of safety as a result of individual advocacy and attending support groups. Lydia's House relies on the generosity of funders, friends, and supporters to meet the enormous cost of providing programs and services year-around to women, children and all individuals escaping domestic violence. Violence and abusive behavior are never acceptable. Everyone deserves to feel valued, respected, and to live safe in their homes.
